A voice status is a short recording posted as a status instead of a photo or video. You can listen to it in WhatsApp, but there is no button to keep it. Here is how to save one to your phone.
Where voice statuses are kept
When you listen to a voice status, WhatsApp writes the recording into the same hidden folder as photo and video statuses:
Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media/.Statuses
(WhatsApp Business uses com.whatsapp.w4b/WhatsApp Business/….) Like every
status, it is deleted from there about a day after WhatsApp writes it.
Many status savers only look for photos and videos, so voice statuses never appear in them.
Save a voice status with Selu
- Listen to it in WhatsApp first, so the file is on your phone.
- Open Selu and tap the Voice filter at the top of the Statuses screen. Voice statuses show as tiles with a microphone and their length.
- Open it. Play it, skip back or forward, and change the playback speed.
- Tap Save. The recording is saved as an audio file to
Music/StatusSaver. From there any music player can play it, and you can share it like any other file.
You can also select several statuses — voice, photo and video together — and save them in one go.
Save it without an app
A file manager can copy the file directly. Turn on hidden files, open the
.Statuses folder above, and look for the audio file with the right time; copy

File names do not say who posted a status, so this is easier when you have
only listened to a few.
Audio from a video status
Sometimes the part you want is the sound of a video — a song, a speech, a
message. In Selu, open the video status and choose Audio converter from
the ⋮ menu (or Tools ▸ Audio converter for any video on your phone). Pick
a format and convert: the sound is saved to Music/StatusSaver/Converted.
Be kind with voices
A voice is personal. Keep a saved voice status for yourself, and ask the person before you share it or play it to others.
