Selu Privacy Policy

Effective date: 29 September 2026 Last updated: 29 September 2026

The short version

Selu has no account and no server. It reads the statuses WhatsApp has already put on your phone, copies the ones you choose into your gallery, and keeps everything it knows about on your phone. Nothing it reads or saves is uploaded — not to us, and not to anyone else.

The app is supported by advertising. The advertising partners named below receive your device’s advertising ID and some technical details, so they can show and measure ads. They are not given your statuses, your saved files, or the phone numbers you type.

Who we are

Selu: Status Saver (“Selu”, “the app”) is developed and published by NexApp (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at nexapp7@proton.me.

Selu is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by WhatsApp LLC or Meta Platforms, Inc.

What Selu does

When you view a status in WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business, WhatsApp writes a copy of it into a folder on your phone. Selu reads that folder — only after you allow it — and shows you what is there. You can save a status to your gallery, share it, repost it, keep copies for a few days, trim or split a video, and see how much space your saves use.

Information we collect

We collect nothing ourselves. We do not run a server that receives your data, we have no account system, and the app contains no analytics or crash-reporting software of ours.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, messages, photos, videos, voice notes, location, or anything about the statuses you view or save.

The app does contain advertising software, which collects data for its own purposes rather than ours. What it receives is set out under Advertising below.

The status folder

Android does not let one app read another app’s folders. The first time you use Selu, it opens Android’s own folder picker at the folder where WhatsApp keeps viewed statuses, and you choose Use this folder and Allow.

  • Selu reads only that folder (and the WhatsApp Business one, if you allow it too). It does not ask for “all files access”, and it cannot see the rest of your storage.
  • It reads those files. It does not change or delete WhatsApp’s copies.
  • You can withdraw the permission at any time: clear the app’s storage in Android Settings, or uninstall the app.

On Android 10 and older, the same folder is read with the storage permission those versions require, because the folder picker cannot reach it there.

Information stored on your phone

Selu keeps the following on your phone. None of it is sent to us, and we have no way to access it.

  • Saved statuses — the photos, videos and voice notes you save, as normal files in Pictures/StatusSaver, Movies/StatusSaver and Music/StatusSaver. They are yours: any gallery or file manager can open them, and uninstalling Selu does not delete them.
  • A list of your saves — which files you saved, when, and which you marked as favourites, so the Saved tab can show them.
  • Kept copies — only if you turn on Keep. Selu copies each status you view into its own private folder, for the 1, 3 or 7 days you choose and up to the space limit you set, and deletes each copy when its time is up.
  • Private saves — statuses you save privately stay in the app’s own folder, where no gallery app can see them. They are not encrypted. They are deleted if you uninstall the app or clear its storage.
  • Recent numbers — only if you turn on Remember recent numbers in the message-a-number tool (it is off by default). Turning it off deletes the list.
  • Settings and counters — your language, theme and other choices; how many new statuses there are; when the app last showed a reminder; and, for the rating prompt, how many saves you have made and whether you asked not to be asked again.

Backup. Kept copies, private saves, the list of recent numbers and the reminder’s record are excluded from Android’s cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. Your settings and the rating prompt’s counters are included, so a new phone does not ask you again about something you already answered. Saved statuses in your gallery folders are ordinary files; whether they are backed up depends on your own backup app, such as Google Photos.

You can erase everything Selu stores at any time by clearing the app’s storage in Android Settings, or by uninstalling the app. Files you saved to your gallery stay until you delete them.

Messaging a number without saving it

The message-a-number tool builds a WhatsApp link from the number you type and hands it to WhatsApp. The number is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it is not stored unless you turned on Remember recent numbers.

Notifications

Selu can post a notification when there are new statuses, and one short reminder in the evening. Both are created on your phone from what is in the status folder. There is no push service and no server behind them. On Android 13 and newer, Android asks you before the app can post notifications, and you can turn each one off in the app’s settings.

Network connections the app makes

Selu itself does not need the internet. Viewing, saving, keeping, trimming and splitting all work offline. The connections that do happen are:

  1. Advertising. The app requests ads from its advertising partners and reports whether they were shown. See Advertising below.
  2. Google Play. The app may ask the Play Store whether a newer version exists, and may ask it to show Google’s own rating card. That is the Play Store talking to Google; the app learns nothing about you from it.

Permissions and why they are needed

Permission Purpose
Access to the status folder (Android’s folder picker) To read the statuses WhatsApp saved when you viewed them. You grant it once, by hand.
Storage (Android 10 and older only) To read the status folder and save files, on versions where the folder picker cannot reach it.
Notifications (Android 13 and newer) To tell you about new statuses and to show the evening reminder. Optional; the app works without it.
Internet, network state For the ads, and to avoid asking Google Play for updates when you are offline.
Advertising ID (AD_ID) Used by the advertising software for frequency capping and measurement. You can delete or reset it in Android Settings — see Your choices.

The advertising software also declares a few permissions of its own (Wi-Fi state, wake lock, vibration, and Android’s Privacy Sandbox ad permissions), to play video ads and measure them. Selu asks for no access to your contacts, location, camera or microphone.

Advertising

Selu is supported by advertising. This is what keeps the app available with no subscription and no account.

Ads are supplied through AppLovin MAX and the advertising networks it works with. To select, show, limit and measure an ad, those partners receive:

  • your device’s advertising ID and app set ID;
  • your IP address, and the approximate location it implies (usually your city or region — not a precise position);
  • device and app details: model, operating system version, app version and language;
  • ad events: which ads were requested, shown and tapped;
  • crash and diagnostic data from the advertising software itself.

They use this to choose which ad to show, to avoid showing you the same one too often, to measure and bill for it, and — where you have allowed it — to personalise it.

Third parties, including AppLovin and Meta, may collect, process and share personal data for advertising purposes — including serving interest-based advertising and improving their advertising services — and may use cookies, web beacons, device identifiers and similar storage technologies to collect or receive information from the app, to provide measurement services and to target ads. Third-party measurement partners may also collect and process personal data as part of the Open Measurement Working Group.

What they are not given. We do not pass them your statuses, your saved files, the phone numbers you type, or anything else the app reads. The app tells the advertising software only which place in the app the ad is for.

More than one company may receive a request for the same ad space. Each partner’s own privacy policy governs what it does with what it receives:

We work with AppLovin to deliver ads in the app. For more information about AppLovin’s collection and use of your information, visit https://legal.applovin.com/privacy/.

Meta Audience Network is set to Limited Data Use before it starts.

Rewarded video. If you choose to watch a short video ad, full-screen ads stop for 30 minutes. Watching it is always your choice.

Your choices

  • Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland). Where the law requires it, Selu asks for your consent to personalised advertising the first time you open it, using Google’s consent form. You can change your answer at any time in Settings ▸ Ads and privacy ▸ Privacy options. If you do not consent, ads still appear, but they are not personalised.
  • Reset or delete your advertising ID. Android Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Ads. On Android 12 and later you can delete the identifier, which stops personalisation; on earlier versions, choose Opt out of Ads Personalisation. Ads keep appearing either way; they simply stop being tailored to you.
  • Industry opt-out pages. You can also limit interest-based advertising through https://youradchoices.com/, https://optout.aboutads.info/ and, in Europe, https://www.youronlinechoices.eu/.
  • Everything stored on your phone can be erased at any time from Android Settings, or by uninstalling the app.

Children

Selu is intended for users aged 13 and over (16 and over where local law sets a higher age for consent to data processing), and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, and the app’s advertising is never set up for children.

Other people’s statuses

Statuses are other people’s photos, videos and voices. Save only what you are allowed to keep, and ask before you share or repost someone else’s status. The terms of use say more.

Sharing and selling data

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for our own purposes. Showing personalised advertising through the partners named above involves sharing the data listed under Advertising with them. Under some privacy laws — including those of several US states — that counts as a “sale” or “share”. You can stop it by turning off ad personalisation as described under Your choices.

Data retention and deletion

We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to keep or delete on our side, and no account to close. The advertising partners keep what they receive under their own policies, linked above. Data stored on your phone stays until you delete it — through the app’s own controls, by clearing the app’s storage in Android Settings, or by uninstalling the app.

If you have a question about deletion, write to nexapp7@proton.me and we will explain exactly what exists and where.

Security

What the app stores stays on your phone, protected by your phone’s own security: your screen lock and Android’s app sandbox, which stops other apps from reading Selu’s private folder. Data sent to the advertising partners travels over encrypted connections.

This website

This website (getselu.app) sets no cookies and runs no analytics, ads or trackers, and it loads nothing from other companies’ servers. It is served by Cloudflare, which processes technical request data, such as IP addresses, to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and post the new version at this address. If a future version of Selu collects more than this one does, we will update this policy and the app’s Google Play Data Safety section before that version is released.
