How it works
How to save a WhatsApp status
Three steps — and the second one happens only once.

View the status in WhatsApp
Open WhatsApp and watch the statuses you like. When you view a status, WhatsApp writes a copy of it into a folder on your phone, and deletes that copy about a day later.

Open Selu and allow the folder once
The first time, Android asks you to allow the status folder. Selu opens the right folder for you: tap “Use this folder”, then “Allow”. Android remembers your choice.

What makes it different
More than a status saver
Four tools most status savers do not have — built for the moment a status is about to disappear, and for what you do with it next.
Keep statuses for up to 7 days
A status disappears 24 hours after it is posted, and WhatsApp deletes the copy on your phone soon after. Turn on “Keep statuses” in Settings, and Selu copies each status you view into its own folder — so you can still save it later, after WhatsApp has deleted it.
Choose 1, 3 or 7 days, and how much space to use: 500 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB. The copies delete themselves on that schedule. What you save to your gallery is yours, and the app never deletes it.
“Keep statuses” works from the moment you turn it on. It cannot bring back a status that was deleted before that.
Split long videos for your status
A status video can be at most 90 seconds long on current WhatsApp versions, and 30 or 60 seconds on older ones. Selu cuts a long video into 30, 60 or 90-second parts, numbered in order, so you can post them one after another as consecutive statuses.
The original quality is kept wherever the file allows it. You can also trim a video down to the part you want, or pause any video status and save that single frame as a photo.
Voice statuses, as real audio files
Voice statuses sit in the list with everything else. Play them, skip back and forward, change the speed, and save them as audio files that any music app can open.

Why Android asks you to allow a folder
Since Android 11, an app cannot look inside another app’s folders on its own. WhatsApp keeps the statuses you view in a hidden folder called .Statuses, and Android lets another app read it only after you allow it, once, by hand. That is Android’s rule, and it is why many status savers show an empty screen on newer phones.
Selu opens Android’s own folder picker at exactly the right place. You tap “Use this folder” and “Allow”, and that is the only access it needs: no “all files access”, no contacts, no location, no camera.
Saving copies a file into your gallery folders, where any gallery or file manager can open it. The files are yours, and uninstalling Selu does not delete them.
Show a status you have not viewed. It reads only what WhatsApp has already saved on your phone.
Hide your view. Watching a status in WhatsApp counts as a view there, as usual.
Bring back a status that is already gone. “Keep statuses” holds copies only from the moment you turn it on.

What stays on your phone
Selu has no account and no server. The statuses it reads, the files you save and your settings stay on your phone, and nothing is uploaded. The ads come from third-party partners, which receive your device’s advertising ID and basic device details to show and measure them. The privacy policy names them and explains how to limit it.

How do I save a WhatsApp status with Selu?
View the status in WhatsApp first. Then open Selu — the first time, allow the status folder when Android asks. Every status you viewed is listed, newest first. Tap one and tap Save, or select several and save them together. Photos go to Pictures/StatusSaver, videos to Movies/StatusSaver and voice statuses to Music/StatusSaver.
Why do I have to view the status in WhatsApp first?
Selu downloads nothing from the internet. It reads the copy WhatsApp writes on your phone when you view a status. A status you have not opened in WhatsApp is not on your phone yet, so there is nothing to show.
Will the person know I viewed their status?
Yes, as usual. You watch the status in WhatsApp, so it counts as a view there, like any other. Selu only reads the copy that is then on your phone, and it does not change what WhatsApp shows the person who posted it. Please ask before you share someone else’s photo or video.
Does Selu work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. Selu reads statuses from WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. Show the two side by side, or mixed in one list.
How long do WhatsApp statuses stay on my phone?

Why does Selu show no statuses?
First, view a few statuses in WhatsApp, then come back. If the list is still empty, check that you allowed the right folder: .Statuses inside Android/media/com.whatsapp (com.whatsapp.w4b if you use WhatsApp Business). Selu opens Android’s folder picker at that place for you — tap “Use this folder” without moving to another folder. You can choose it again at any time in Settings.
Where do my saved statuses go?
Into your phone’s normal gallery folders: Pictures/StatusSaver for photos, Movies/StatusSaver for videos and Music/StatusSaver for voice statuses. Any gallery or file manager can open them, Google Photos can back them up, and uninstalling Selu does not delete them. Private saves are the exception: they stay in the app’s own folder, out of the gallery.
Can Selu bring back a status that is already gone?
No. Selu can only show statuses that are still on your phone. Turn on “Keep statuses”, and from then on it holds a copy of each status you view for up to 7 days — so you can save it even after WhatsApp deletes it.
Does Selu need internet or an account?
No account, no sign-up. Viewing and saving statuses works with no internet connection. Only the ads use the internet.
Does Selu show ads?
Yes. The ads keep the app available without a subscription. There is never an ad when you first open the app, never one on the status you just tapped and never one in the viewer; at most one full-screen ad follows a save, and never two within 90 seconds.
