A WhatsApp status video has a length limit. Pick a longer video and WhatsApp asks you to cut it down to one piece — the rest of the video is lost. The way to post all of it is to split it into parts and post them one after another. Here is how.
How long can a status video be?
On current versions of WhatsApp, a status video can be up to 90 seconds long. The limit was 30 seconds for years, rose to 60 seconds in 2024, and to 90 seconds in 2025. If your WhatsApp is not up to date, it may still use a lower limit.
So a 3-minute video needs two 90-second parts, or three 60-second parts.
Split a video with Selu
- Open Tools ▸ Trim & split and tap Pick a video. You can pick any video on your phone, or open a video status in the viewer and choose Trim & split from the ⋮ menu.
- Tap Split.
- Under Length of each part, choose 30 s, 60 s or 90 s. The screen shows how many parts you will get and the time range of each one.
- Tap Split into … parts (the button shows the number). Selu makes the parts and numbers them in order.
- Post them: tap Post part 1, add it to your status in WhatsApp, then come back for part 2 — or tap Post all to WhatsApp.
The parts are also saved to Movies/StatusSaver/Split, so you can post them
later or share them another way.
Which length should I choose?
- 90 s — the fewest parts, if your WhatsApp is up to date.
- 60 s — if WhatsApp still cuts your 90-second parts short.
- 30 s — for older WhatsApp versions, or when your contacts often skip long statuses.
If WhatsApp trims a part when you post it, pick a shorter length and split again.
Post only one part: trim
If you only want the best 20 seconds, use Trim instead of Split: drag the
start and end of the timeline, tap Trim, and post the one clip. Trimmed
videos are saved to Movies/StatusSaver/Trim.
Tips
- Post in order. People see statuses in the order you posted them, so part 1 goes first.
- Check the sound. Each part keeps the audio for its own time range.
- Quality. Selu keeps the original quality wherever the file allows it. WhatsApp may compress each part again when you post it, like any status.
