Sometimes the best photo is hidden inside a video: a smile, a view, a moment that lasts half a second. A screenshot catches it with WhatsApp’s buttons and your status bar on top. Saving the frame itself gives you a clean photo.
Save a frame with Selu
- Watch the video status in WhatsApp first, so it is on your phone.
- Open it in Selu. Tap the video on the Statuses screen to open it full screen.
- Find the moment. Play and pause, drag along the timeline, or double-tap the left or right side to jump 5 seconds.
- Tap ⋮ ▸ Save frame. Selu saves exactly the frame on screen as a photo in your gallery, and says Frame saved to your gallery.
Save as many frames as you like from the same video. The video itself does not need to be saved first.
Tips for a sharp frame
- Pause on a still moment. Frames taken during fast movement are blurry in the video itself; a frame half a second later may be sharper.
- Zoom first to check. Pinch to zoom in on a paused video to see whether the moment is in focus.
- Status videos are compressed. WhatsApp shrinks videos when they are posted, so a frame is usually smaller than a photo taken with a camera.
Without an app
Without a status saver, the usual way is a screenshot: pause the status in WhatsApp and press the screenshot buttons, then crop the picture. It works, but the image includes your screen’s layout, and a status keeps playing unless you hold your finger on it.
Other things you can do with a video status
- Save the whole video to your gallery in its original quality.
- Keep only a part with ⋮ ▸ Trim & split.
- Keep only the sound with ⋮ ▸ Audio converter.
If the video is someone else’s, keep the frame for yourself and ask before you share it.
